Things have been busy in the studio! Lots of new stuff brewing-some fun collaborations and commissions I'm excited to share with you soon. I just completed this 60 x42" wall sculpture-it was commissioned by one of my favorite art consulting friends for a luxe hotel in Cali. Well I have been rather quiet here I shared a ton of process shots over on Instagram and on Snapchat. For those of you thinking I'm a crazy person right now Snapchat is still totally a strange phenomenon to me but one I think actually works well for sharing off the cuff, in the studio goodies. Give it a try if you haven't already! Seeing makers and creatives in their element is lots of fun.
Anyhoo-can I just say I am SO DANG RELIEVED this turned out how I envisioned it?! This was the type of project that really forces me to stretch outside my comfort zone and I kept questioning and reevaluating my methods and what the outcome might be the whole time! Working with tons of small, fragile elements to create something large and impactful is a challenge. The color palette was really hard to nail and I was afraid it would be just too much but instead its maximal, fun, and totally different than anything I would have come up with on my own! This is exactly what I love about the collaborative commission process-I discover so much about the materials and myself as a creator.
It was a ton of work and I'm so happy with it and excited to see it framed up beautifully and installed in the hotel. I will definitely share the install shots if I am able to get my hands on them! I am going to keep exploring this concept-next I plan to make one in the natural clay finish and I also have a request for a sample in the natural clay with a watercolor wash which I think will be gorgeous. An artists work is never done! ;)
