For a bit there I was consistently writing Sunday Notes + Recent Favs posts, they were a great way for me to wrap up the week in the studio, take note of and reflect on whats happening in my personal life, and share a little roundup of links and goodies from around the web and beyond. So, its been a while so hello new friends and thanks for hanging in there to my long-time peeps! I hope a little peek into who I am and what my little world is all about helps you to understand my work and my motivation! Its all intertwined in one big, artful, messy creation so I might as well give you the full picture :)
Friday I wrapped up work on a big ol' sculptural wall work commission that was one of the more challenging pieces I've done! I am really pleased with how it turned out, and will share full images here soon, but for now here's a peek I shared over on Instagram.
As wonderful as commission work is (and I know I am lucky to have it) I have long been wanting to share and offer my work in other ways. I told myself I would make setting up a proper online shop a priority in 2016-I am so looking forward to expanding the Ink and Indigo offerings to the wider world! I have it on good authority from some talented artists with online shops that the Squarespace shop platform will be great-so I am working away behind the scenes here so that I can finally offer my work to everyone! I am thinking the first launch will be a mix of original works on paper and panel, a couple of print series, and maybe even a few small scale, framed sculptural pieces? I plan to have some fun giveaways in the lead up to the launch so keep an eye out for that!
The kidlets are keeping things interesting as ever! Nila, my oldest, is blossoming in Kindy-the confidence that comes with new knowledge, friends, and navigating the wider world looks pretty darn good on her. She is still really into art and totally identifies a an artist, which is exciting to see! She is continually blowing my mind with her creations and free thinking. As hard as it is to admit, my baby girl, Fiona somehow has turned into a full blown kid! She has a spirit like no other-endlessly funny, surprising, and challenging. Her love language is all about interacting with EVERYTHING which makes for lots of messes and a fair bit of chaos, but dang that girl is FUN! I can't wait to see what she comes up with next. My sweet baby boy, Julian is somehow approaching ONE YEAR OLD! Ya'll, it seems impossible to me. He continues to be the most magical, elfin little dude. He makes a game out of catching your eye than beaming you with the most amazing, full faced grin. Babies. They are simply the best.
In other news Spring is here in a big way and I'm full on plant obsessed. I all too quick to go full hermit in the winter but man do I come alive in Spring! Every free second is spent in the yard, pulling weeds, moving plants, pruning, planting, plotting. I love it so. I have peas, strawberries, herbs, basil (and tons of other stuff) in the ground already and am hoping to head over to a local native plant sale to pickup some more starts. I also totally caved and we selected 3 new chicks to add to our backyard brood. There is an Australorp, a Buff Orpington, and a Black Maran. They seem to all have particularly good demeanors, and the girls are socializing them A LOT. Some serious chick snuggling happening around here.
So-there you have a probably way too informative update on me. Now-for a few other things to check out:
The Obamas in Cuba: Politics aside; seeing the President and First Family in Cuba made for some pretty great visuals. Love the ones Pete Souza shared over on his Instagram. The whole idea of Cuba enthralls me, I'd love to go! Their trip also made me think of the gorgeous Havana series by one of my favorite photographers, Michael Eastman, which you must check out here.
Chill the Hell Out About Instagram People: I totally get that the new algorithm is causing the creative communities and small businesses I follow and am part of some heartburn but the hysteria I am seeing is a bit much. As usual, Meighan O'Toole has an insightful, sane point of view. A breath of fresh air and a license to ignore the noise and to try to focus on sharing my work and engaging with my peeps in the best way I can.
Valley Queen, 'Who Ever Said': I just discovered this band on the All Songs Considered SXSW wrap-up. Totally in love. I've probably played it about 50 times since last week-Natalie Carole's voice is pure gold.
Excessively Candid FoodNetwork.com Recipe Reviews from the New Yorker: I actually totally LOL'd while reading this-do yourself a favor and indulge in some perfectly New Yorker humor for a sec.
Local Milk in Japan: Beth and her husband have been traveling around and hosting a retreat in Japan and I've been following along on Snapchat-her username is localmilk. Her Instagram is so damn good and she shares a lot there- but her Snapchats show so much more and have me lusting for a trip to Japan. What an incredibly beautiful place. Ryokan Asaba, a serene and modern boutique hotel has been noted in my travel wishlist.
Until next time!
